And today happens to be the day before PROM!!! Crazy timing, right?

Soooo, I was wondering if anyone would mind showing me where the nearest dress shop is? And maybe even help me pick out something to wear? Pretty please with a Maraschino cherry on top? <3

I promise I'll find a way to pay you back! I'll even save a dance for you tomorrow night, and I've been told my dancing is pretty awesome!!!!

[ omg ruby. anyway. she is, indeed, outside of the dormitory area when lia arrives. she's all dressed up in black and red attire, fitting for her name, and when she sees someone approaching, she speaks up. ]

Um... Hi! You must be Lia?

[buddinghopes]

[And it doesn't take much longer for Lia to arrive, practically bouncing as she moves. When she spots Ruby, though, she jogs the rest of the way.]

Yup, that's me! And you must be Ruby! Ready to get going, then?

Uh-huh! Totally ready.

[ ruby seems to be a little quieter than her texting suggests, but she's still putting her best foot forth. she wants to be friends with lia already! ]

So... How's everything going? Liking it here so far?

[buddinghopes]

Awesome!

[Lia fistpumps before she starts walking, brushing some of her hair back as she does.]

It's been pretty fun, if a little surreal still. I just got here recently, and, well... it's one thing growing up around magic and the supernatural and stuff, but totally another to actually go to a school for it, you know?

[ she's so excited, ruby can't help but smile wider. ]

I know what you mean! I was starting to think I couldn't tell anyone at my old school about what I was doing, and then Daybreak Academy happened! It was a dream come true!

[buddinghopes]

[She nods in understanding.]

Right? I was lucky enough to have a few people, but it's not the same as being open about it... Hey, you said you were from the US, right? What part?

[rwbyrose]

[ ruby wasn't so lucky, and had basically...no real friends growing up. she's hoping that here, she'll fit right in with everyone. no secrets. no hiding. ]

Yep, I'm from California! Travelled allll the way to France just to be here here. All twelve hours, filled with airplane food and turbulence!

[ she laughs a little awkwardly, but it's sincere nonetheless. ]

What about you?

Wow, we're from opposite ends of the country.

[She can't help but laugh a little.]

I came here from New York! And... probably the biggest weirdness magnet in the country... [A beat.] Except maybe Florida.

I was about to say that was debatable, buuuut...yeah, I think you've got us beat there.

[ rude, ruby!!! ]

Wow... I wasn't expecting to meet anyone else from the US! I was starting to worry that I might be the only from the States... Phew! I feel a lot better already!

[buddinghopes]

[She taps a finger against her chin and tilts her head.]

Manhattan's weird. I'm pretty sure we have gargoyles? They're not hurting anything but it's still kinda odd because I'm pretty sure there weren't any sightings a couple years ago.

[Lia loves the place but good lord.]

Yeah, I get that. It's kind of a relief to not feel so alone, huh?

[She knows she was certainly relieved to see Ryuji...]

Oooh, gargoyles! I haven't seen one of those before! What're they like?

[ sounds like a rare cryptid!! exciting! ]

And...ha ha, yeah, it does. It really, really does.

[ she sounds pretty worn out when she says that. sort of like it's been a long time coming since she's finally found some company. ]

I haven't seen one up close or anything, just from a distance? But my dad said he's pretty sure they're supposed to be like... protective spirits or something like that! It's kinda neat.

[The worn out tone doesn't escape Lia's notice, though, and she sets a hand on Ruby's shoulder.]

I'm sure you'll make plenty of friends here. You can already count me among them!

Protective spirits? Well, we could sure use those around here! Flying around, flapping their wings, watching over us... Me, especially...

[ her voice trails off, like she's trying to joke around but isn't. actually joking.

until lia speaks again. you can already count me among them. ruby pauses and turns to look at her, and her eyes widen. ]

You really think so, Lia?

[buddinghopes]

We really could...

[It's fine everything's fine WE'RE ALL FINE HERE.

At Ruby's question, though, she gives a resolute nod and a bright smile.]

Absolutely!

[ IT'S FINE!!! she is a little excited to face the herald, not gonna lie, but still!! school life is hard, man.

except lia makes her feel like it'll be a little easier. she feels relief and warmth at lia's enthusiasm, her willingness to be so kind to a complete stranger, and ruby won't deny her the chance to become her friend. ]

Watch your back then, because I'm gonna befriend you so much you won't even see it coming! It'll be like whoooosh, and then suddenly, ha! It's me, texting you in the middle of class!

[ she does some ridiculous hand motions to accompany her sound effects. ]

[She laughs at the sound effects and hand motions.]

Doesn't telling me it's coming defeat the purpose a little? ... But I'll be looking forward to that.

Nope! Because you don't know when I'll do it!

[That gets a giggle.]

Just a warning, it might take me a bit to get back to you if I'm in Alchemy and Artifice--I don't want something to blow up because I decided to check my phone... Although things blow up all the time in that class anyway, sometimes even intentionally...

... Oh, that reminds me! What can you do, anyway?

Noooo problem! Sometimes blowing things up can be fun, right? Wouldn't want you to miss out on that.

Have you watched magical girl anime? Because it's kinda like that. I can't use the really cool stuff until I transform. When I do, though, I can teleport! And summon weapons!
