Three things:

A.) If anyone needs me, don't bother with my room. I'm in the infirmary, by Keith's bed. As some of you may know he and Ruby have fallen comatose after we went on an ill-advised mission to the Outlands. Please keep them in your thoughts.

B.) Is anyone here good with amphibians? I'm not comfortable leaving Keith's bedside, but I have a friendly glow toad who might need a little water fun from time to time. If you want to play with a toad, feed him some more toad-appropriate food than 'a quarter of my sandwiches', etc... I'd appreciate it.

A little banged up, but nothing bad. I got lucky this time.

The infirmary staff says their conditions are stable at least. I don't know much beyond this.

Until Keith wakes up. I can't stand going back to our room right now. Professor Hieke was kind enough to allow me to stay.

I was hoping you were proficient with toads as well!

Sir is from the Outlands so he's a lot more sturdy and intelligent than a mundane toad. His diet is more varied and he's fine just sitting on someone's shoulder for a while, etc. So he's really pretty easy to take care of.

I knew she liked frogs but I didn't know she actually owned one. That's sweet.

Yeah, right now the toad is with me. He's an Outland species so he doesn't mind free roaming and being carried around.

[Anyway, if the frog is there that means Yuya knows what else he needs to bring. So James is going to get some company in about an hour as Yuya peeks around the infirmary for them with multiple things in his arms.] Hey.

Oh, I only asked what she liked about frogs, so he never came up.

[ Which is a text that is probably not seen because sooner than James expects, Yuya is just present in the room. James is seated in the bedside chair next to Keith, with Cosmo the Outland wolf puppy resting by his feet and Sir the Outland toad glowing softly on the nighttable.

When Yuya comes in, Cosmo gets up and immediately walks over to say hello. James offers a weak smile meanwhile. ]

I don't want the infirmary to get too crowded. I'm already causing enough trouble for the professors as is...

But if we could text for a bit, I'd really appreciate it. I know Keith is stable and it's still nerve-wrecking.

Okay is probably an overstatement. I'm physically fine, some bruises aside.

I messed up really badly though. I thought I could do damage control by coming with him and the others, but I should have stopped this madness when I could have.

[Nana's not going to say that all of this is really great. That would be insensitive. Jame's roommate (boyfriend? they did go to prom together...) is in a coma. James is worried sick.

I think I can manage that. I can cook him food, if that goes better! And find him some bugs, if he prefers those.

Whoa--hi, Cosmo! [His arms are too full, so he carefully steps around the puppy to try and get to the nightstand.

He sets a shallow bowl down beside Sir, then twists open a water bottle with his teeth and pours it in to create a makeshift pond. After that he carefully unfolds a couple white paper cranes, not unlike what James saw in his memory, putting them on the nightstand.

Then he turns and offers James a granola bar.] Have you eaten yet?

Thank you so much! He's omnivorous from all I can tell. Haven't found anything he wouldn't eat and do well with yet.

What does your frog normally eat?

I don't think I'll be at ease until he's awake, but the infirmary staff is trying to reassure me.

It's just... weird. He isn't even a loud person normally, but it's still too quiet.

[ But snakes are actually pretty cool and they would fit Jail's aesthetic in James' superficial opinion. ]

Sir (that's the toad) is a swamp denizen though, his temperatures are fairly low from what I understand. I'm new to toad-keeping, but I read up a lot.

[ Sir very appreciatively hops into the mini-pond and turns pink. James takes the granola bar meanwhile and if he had the power to also express his feelings by changing skin color, he'd likely be pink as well. ]

I... hadn't even thought about eating. You're a lifesaver.

[ Most people at this school have been through incredible emergencies, but for James this is a first time experience of a prolonged horror scenario. He's not used to coping. ]

Do the cranes have a meaning? I remember them from your past, too....
