Video, mid-afternoon
[David's been out of contact for the past few days, having flown back to New York because his wife was due to give birth soon. Now he posts a video to the school network, looking tired and worn.]
I know everyone is busy enjoying their summer vacations, but I'm in need of a little help. A powerful faerie has cast a sleep spell across several blocks of Manhattan, and I have...my own issues to deal with, so I can't play damage control, so-
[He cuts off as an older man shoves him and his entire rolling chair off screen.]
Don't give me that 'personal issues'. These people are from that fancy magic school you're going to, right? Then they can use their fancy magic to help!
[The man turns to the camera, looking deathly serious...and also as though he hasn't slept well.]
Oberon is giving us twenty-four hours from last night to change our minds about not giving up my grandson before he forces the issue. You people are supposed to be protecting us civilians from these magical...shenanigans, right? So come protect my family!
[David comes back into view, adjusting his suit after his sudden trip.]
Father, please...but, you're right. As much as it pains me to ask...I don't think we can handle this on our own. Anyone who's willing to stand up to the ruler of a fae kingdom, please...I would be deeply in your debt if you helped me keep my family together.
(And so begins the Midsummer Night's Dream plot! Due to time differences, this will actually take place in the early morning of the 11th by Daybreak local time, and so the log for actually facing Oberon and protecting Manhattan will go up tomorrow.)

My mother-in-law is actually a faerie queen in disguise, and she recently re-married her ex-husband.
Now that faerie king wants to gather all of his subjects back in his kingdom in the Outlands, before Nightfall. And according to him, that includes my son.

I see - and I suppose like most quasi-immortal monarchs that he is not willing to budge on his position

Obviously, we're in disagreement about what's more important, and he insists that magical instruction come from a fae.

We didn't anticipate this, so we're woefully unprepared.

If I can get to Manhattan quickly, there aren't many better anti-seer wards than me.

We don't know exactly what he's capable of, but it's better to overestimate than underestimate.

I'll be there with as much iron as I can get my hands on. Even if it wasn't a matter of protecting someone's family specifically, this guy screwed up big time by doing something so dangerous to my HOME

You should probably hide. Then they won't find him.
[It's a good thing it's a 9 year old suggesting this because otherwise that would be a Really Stupid suggestion huh!
Oddly, if she knew more about the one who gave her her sprites, she'd probably have an Actual solution... ...though it would probably spark a faerie war so maybe Not.]

Any sort of magical shielding will protect you. I'd imagine a suit of iron plated armor would, as well.

I do not know if such suits exist in 'bear' size...
