Of course, Violet being Violet, what's supposed to be a simple "new school who dis" post ends up being, uh, kind of more verbose. ]

Good morning. I hope I haven't posted this too early for anyone to see.

My name is Violet Evergarden and I'm a new student here – I will be joining the 12th grade students once the school year starts up again. Since there's so many of us here and quite a few of us are away from the school currently, I thought it would be best to introduce myself through the network.

I come from Germany, so traveling to France has been quite a change for me, though I've done some traveling before. But this is my first time attending a school like this, especially with so many other magic users, so I'm looking forward to meeting the people I will be spending my time at school with.

Since I've just arrived, I'm not quite used to the campus yet, so I'm curious to know what the more interesting places in the school are? Or if there are any student clubs or organizations it might be good to look into joining.

Regardless, it's good to meet everyone and I can hope we can get along for the next few years.

Welcome to the school, Miss Evergarden. You may call me V. I'm one of the graduate students and a teaching assistant for the literature classes. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

I'm rather new to the school myself, so I'm not entirely used to the campus either, but I've quite enjoyed the time I've spent in the library so far. If you're fond of reading, they have quite the selection to choose from.

I'll be making my way over to the library once I've settled in a bit – truthfully, I've been looking forward to seeing the selection of books. It seems to be much bigger than any of the libraries I've been to before, so the selection should be much wider.

Are there any books they have that you'd recommend?

I'd recommend William Blake's works--I've had a fondness for those since my childhood.

That aside, however... Do you have any particular preferences?

[shiritai]

I mostly prefer mystery and detective novels – though I don't think I have a particular favourite author, as much as I do particular individual stories that I like. I enjoy true crime novels and autobiographies, but that usually depends on how they're told more so than the content itself.

I'm rather fond of Agatha Christie's works as far as mystery novels go, though I'll admit I need to read more sometime.

I'm rather particular about presentation in true crime novels myself, which probably contributes to why I don't partake in those much.

Yes, it's been a while since I've finished one myself. It's not that I mean to be a snob about it... I just feel as though sometimes, the authors can be a bit too excited about how gruesome and awful a crime is.

It feels a bit... distasteful, I think I want to say? Or maybe a bit voyeuristic. But I suppose you could say that about the whole genre, really.

I don't find it snobbish at all. I understand exactly what you mean. I can't say I'm too fond of any authors that tend to glorify the crime or the criminals who committed it, particularly in the case of something especially gruesome.

The genre is interesting, but not... that.

Yes, I think that's what I meant. Something about turning into a spectacle feels as though you're giving the criminals the sort of attention they don't deserve – or that you're turning the victims into a spectacle over something they'd rather move past. It seems like a hard balance to strike.

I think that might be why I prefer fiction over true crime novels. In fiction, even if something's a bit gruesome, no one is really getting hurt.

It's good to meet you as well. This school does seem to overwhelm those not used to it. As for activities, if one does not exist yet, it likely soon will if you speak to enough interested people.

I suppose I could try, but I'm not sure it would garner much interest. My hobbies aren't the sorts of thing you can really do with a big group of people.

But don't schools usually have things like that? Like golf teams or book clubs.

[shiritai]

I'm afraid I've never attended a school before, so I wouldn't know if that was the case.

Really? I suppose that isn't too out of the ordinary, there's homeschooling and there are some other things...

[shiritai]

I suppose homeschooling isn't too far off. It wasn't on any sort of formal schedule, but I've learned what I need so far. This is just my first time in a formal environment with other students.

Oh, more like unschooling! I've heard of that too. The idea that you learn better if you do it at your own pace and will, right?

[shiritai]

That's correct. It can work very well for some people, but certain individuals might find they require more guidance or assistance to be able to apply themselves to their studies properly.

So some people need to be told what to do, others need to... not that, I suppose?

[shiritai]

It works for some people, but I can't really say the same for myself. I find having structure to be much more helpful.

I hope that you find success here, then. Things can be fairly chaotic, but you will find the instruction you need.

I'm looking forward to it. By the sounds of things, there are all kinds of interesting subjects to pick up here. Is there anything in particular you've been enjoying so far?

[stavros]

Phys.Ed appears an insurmountable foe, but I swear to you that this will be the year that I finally surpass the beep test. Twenty-one rounds of cardiovascular endurance. The average student makes it six or seven.

Important tips for new students around here:
- If you see something glowing and you dont know what it is probably stay away from it
- The best cook at the cafeteria always takes sunday and monday off so if youre gonna go out to soleil for lunch thats the days to do it
- If you get a class with Bowser hes like some kind of dragon turtle thing so dont be surprised by that
- There ARE vampires on campus but youre still the asshole if you go around with garlic in your pocket and also youll smell bad

Depends on what kind of atmosphere you like. Hogswill is good if you like a kinda rowdy and disreputable place. Cafe de la Lune is good if you wanna sip coffee and have a croissant and feel French as FUCK. Chevalier Gallant is good if you wanna get an American sized meal and just feel stuffed.

It's good to know that we have options, at least. I'll have to give them all a try, then. Which one would you say is your favourite? If you don't mind giving me some recommendations, that is.

Depends on my mood but I think Chevalier Gallant would have to be my first choice.

I suppose if you're going to head out to eat, you'd want to make sure you were getting your fill. Is it particularly expensive, if the portions are that big?

Its a little pricey but shit its super worth it if youve been working out a lot and youre starving

I am James Moriarty, the Math Professor! I will potentially see you in some of my classes, most likely. Still, I have found the Library to be quite peaceful, or even some of the outside courtyards.

But after a moment of mulling it over, she realizes that it makes sense – they're hardly going to leave students running amock unsupervised on the network. And maybe it'll be a good idea to get to know some of her teachers before she has to take their classes. ]
