[ But he does have the skills for it. The creativity, the silver tongue, the ability to plan far far ahead and connect things in as widespread a web as he needs to and tie it all back together. Telling as story, a made up story, is basically how he lives his life, making up thoughts and beliefs and actions and words.
Hm, well, this and that~ But tell me about trading cards! I haven't heard of people collecting cards since gum was real cheap and you could buy a stick for a penny! What kind of cards do you collect?
Hm, alright! I like googling pictures of giraffes! Your turn~
[ Yeah, lmao, fuck equivalent exchange. He can say whatever he wants for a hobby and Yuya can't tell if it's true or if he's just bullshitting to get Yuya to carry on about trading card. ]
[Yuya knits his brow. Is that a real hobby? He can't prove it, sure, but he doesn't scream 'giraffe' the way Nana screams 'banana'.
Yuya's shoulders fall slack and he shakes his head.] It's Magic the Gathering. I don't play it much, but I have a lot of cards because I like the artwork. Gongenzaka got me into it.
[ It sounds like something he must have heard about before- it sounds nerdy? it also sounds old, it sounds like something that might've been popular when he was younger, but he had neither the money for cards nor friends to play with back then anyways. ]
[ He has to wonder if Toki will ever say something on his own accord, rather than just saying it's okay for Kano to stop by and visit, but that's a problem for when it comes. ]
[It will probably never come up because Toki doesn't study for his classes either.]
Okay, okay. [Yuya holds his hands up before turning to finally open the door to the form and step into the warm hallway. The first floor is a lot quieter without crickets.] You remember which one it is?
That's right! So if I ever need you, I can bang on the ceiling, right?
[Yuya marches up the steps when Kano's in place with him, swinging down the bak to their room. He knocks on the door with the back of his knuckles before digging out his key to unlock it.] I'm back!
[He peeks in, and when he's sure Toki isn't there he pulls the door wide open so Kano can go in first. It's in the same state it usually is, with the addition of some cat toys scattered around-- and a black cat curled up on Toki's bunk.]
I'm going to change out of my uniform first, but you can get comfortable.
[ If either of them bangs on the ceiling, there's a good chance Kano and Ellie would take it as a declaration of war, not a call for help, but Kano just laughs in response, following Yuya up the stairs to their room and -does a little double take when Yuya has to stop and unlock the door, because Kano's experience is that the lock is broken or something because the door always opens without it. ]
Alright, alright~ Take your time~
[ The cat is new, but he doesn't immediately approach it at first, giving it time and space to watch and assess him like he knows cats like to have. Instead, he goes to bother Toki's jellyfish, pacing around the tank like a prowling lion circling a fallen prey. ]
Hey there, Tsuyukusa...
[ A glance towards the cat. If only Maverick knew; he'd have a field day. ]
[Yuya closes the door behind himself, but he doesn't lock it when there's people actually inside now. He digs through his drawers for some jeans and a brightly printed graphic tee before disappearing into the bathroom with a click of the door.
Kano gets a couple minutes alone with the animals, and to snoop, before he comes back out.]
[ Kano steps back from the tank when he hears the bathroom door shut; it's lucky for him that Yuya cares enough about privacy to change in the bathroom instead of just in his bedroom, so Kano will gladly take advantage of that...
He's quiet in his snooping, saving drawers and doors for another time when nobody is around, but takes note of whatever he can see from the walls- posters, calendar, whatever- and Yuya's desk. Mundane things, like whether he makes his bed, if he keeps any cups or snacks around, little things Kano takes most stock in— and then things he's most interested in: names and faces, be it photographs or notes. ]
Hey, cat~ How are you? Will you let me say hi?
[ He speaks out loud to the room, back to the actual cat in question as he looks of Yuya's desk, but, you know. Gotta keep it somewhat authentic, in case Yuya's listening in and wondering why Kano's so quiet. ]
[Yuya'a side of the room has the most stuff, but it's only slightier messier than Toki's--about as much as one would except from teenage boys. There's a bag of chips rolled closed and some chocolates in a plastic bag. His book bag against the desk chair, a couple fiction books and some manga novels shoved into the desk cubby where there's pens scattered--probably from classwork.
There is one particular photo--a picture of Yuya and an older woman, both smiling at the camera. It looks pretty recently, with Yuya not looking much younger than he does now. It's the only photo, pinned up without a frame to the wall.
The cat looks up at the loud noises and just stares down from her perch.
That's about when the door swings opens and Yuya sticks out.] Okay, thanks for waiting.
[ This room sure does scream "teenage boys," and it's a bit endearing, with its stark contrast to Kano's own room where, although it's shared now, remains almost entirely empty and devoid of any personalization aside from the things he shoves into the closet, things to keep but not to display.
Everything gets taken in, and the photo- Kano snaps a picture with his phone, shutter on mute as not to give himself away, so he can ponder over this woman someplace else. The entire time he does this, he casts an illusion as extra security: of himself sticking a hand out to offer to the cat, standing in place no matter where about the room he's actually wandering around at. When Yuya opens the door, it's this illusion he sees and Kano pockets his phone to step into his illusion's shoes, hand outstretched to the cat, palm up. ]
Hey, Yuya, Yuya~ I didn't know you got a cat! What's your cat's name?
[He walks over, rising on his toes to barely reach over the bed and grab the cat, dragging her off the bed and into his arms. She just pulls limply, moving to start bathing herself right in Yuys's arms.]
This is Kuroko. We've had her about a week. She's really friendly, you can pet her.
[ A good cat, not at all like Nekano who starts to bristle if somebody so much as reaches out to pet him. Kano neither likes nor dislikes cats, but he leans over and gives her a slow blink, a cat hello, in lieu of testing his luck and petting her. ]
He~h. A cute one! You said Toki's the one who wanted a cat? Does he really like cats? I wouldn't've imagined he's a cat person~
[ Sorry... if it feels like he's more interested in Toki than he is the cat. Mostly because he is. ]

[ It better be what he means, because if it's just "what do you like to do in general," Kano wouldn't be able to make up an answer as easily. ]
Something like... state director? Or the person on top moving the spotlight around~

But also sorry for the stomping around at 3AM they've probably been hearing from 303. ]

Yuya shrugs.] I guess? He just kind of asked one day, and he seemed really excited about it... I've got pets at home, so I thought it'd be nice too.
[He sets Kuroko down, letting her find her own way as he goes to his desk and pulls a small box out of a drawer.]
