That depends on your initial interests. I've recently learnt about textiles, so I've been combining that with what I know about ballistics to work on making bullet-resistant materials. I already knew a lot about chemistry, but I've been applying it to cooking lately too.

That sort of thing.

think thatd require more textile knowledge? or runic inscription knowledge?

An interesting concept. I've only a cursory knowledge of runic inscription but from what I know it would be the best method. The most ideal way would be to use an electron laser to engrave microscopic runes on each individual thread- that would allow you to account for the numerous methods of magic there are.
