Lessons, but not the kind in a class

Hola, everyone. I'm Héctor. Any of you with night classes are likely already familiar with me. I'd been debating on this for a while and slowly taking on a few people who've asked, so I think it's about time I came forward and simply offered it myself.

I'm opening up guitar lessons, available to all skill levels. Solo lessons and group lessons depending on how many people are interested in the latter. You're free to pay what you like but it's not necessary. Just bring your own instrument and let me know you're coming along. I'll be meeting in the evenings, Fridays, by the cross of life on the school grounds. Thought it might be a nice place to play with the warmer weather coming.

Please just keep in mind I have poor health and some cancellations may be short notice. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. ¡Buenas Noches!

Can you play a guitar with a bow like you do a violin?

Not unless you're willing to sacrifice guitar strings and even the guitar itself. It's not really made for a bow. However, some guitarists these days uses these little stick things, about the size of a pencil and run it along the strings to mimic the sounds a bow would make upon a guitar. I don't tend to do it but I could probably show it off at least once to give you an idea.

You're usually up late anyway, right? You could probably catch me for a solo session. I can let you use what I've got and show you things just a little slower. No one else so you don't have to worry about being any kind of type. But if you ask me, you play just fine with people. I can't lend you anything in a group but you're still welcome to show.

Does it really take lots of years to play nice songs, is it going to be really hard?

It depends a lot on the person, how much time you put in, and whether or not it's something you enjoy. If you like it and practice a lot, it can be quicker and easier sometimes.

I believe I told you before that you never stop learning, right? But that doesn't mean you can't play nice things for a long time, just that there's always more nice things to learn.

I absolutely agree. And the more variety you get in there, the more kinds of songs you can play.

I had a very, very brief stint with trying violin. A lot of fun, but la Guitarra, she calls to me.

Thank you - I'm a fan of the classics.

And yes, some instruments do call out - I've been sat in front of a piano as a child, and while I could play a few notes - it didn't feel right in the way a good violin does.

While my repertoire is classical, I've been expanding on it.

I'm partial to the oldies. Really oldies. Like 1890 to about 1940 range has the best sound for me. But the classics are classic for a reason.

Not so many classical guitar pieces as other instruments but if you're expanding and looking to try other things as say, it's been a long time since I played with any violinist. Maybe we could try a duet piece sometime.

It's not too bad. If I can teach Ernesto to play as a kid, anybody can teach anything. It just calls for patience and showing how things are done.

I'd really appreciate that, having a backup. We get these day trips sometimes and it just takes the energy right out of me. That and it would be good for anyone to learn from such a talented música.
