I don't know what magically-distorted universe you live in, but in the real world people die by assault like yours. It's not legal or moral either.

Pleading moral superiority when you're the aggressor is laughable.

Intent and potential consequence aren't the same.

Whether or not you meant to kill him was never up for debate. What matters is what you did and what risks for consequence you accepted by doing it.
