HEY. STUDENT COUNCIL MEMBERS.
have any of you seen james? dude was supposed to go out on an errand for you guys and he hasn't come back yet. pretty unlike him to decide to camp out on the alps at night for shits and giggles. might wanna do a search party for your vice president. also has anyone seen ana? she's not responding to my messages either.

[alternatively for anyone who happens to be in the aube dorm, enjoy the loud ruckus keith is causing by slamming the door open and closed. tagging along with him are a sleepy glowing pupper and an angry looking toad perched on his shoulder. he has one of james' shirts in his hand which he's holding out for cosmo to sniff.]

I have not seen him especially recently, but then again, many have also been absent for 'Thanksgiving', and similar reasons...

Given that you are asking however, I suspect that this is not why he is not here.

he did go back home for thanksgiving, yeah
but he was supposed to be back tonight. said he'd be doing some student council errand in soleil before coming back up to campus.

It is odd to some...but a bear's nose is incredibly strong. Stronger than even any dog- I could very likely attempt to track him down that way.

There are not many who do! I suspect it is because in the end, a bear is not something that you can keep in your house so easily!

A shirt that was worn recently will be perfect; it will mean the scent is fresher, and easier to follow.

You would be quite surprised as to what objects retain scent the most!

However if his shoes are particularly pungent, then yes those should suffice.

[Allura doesn't live in aube, but her roommate is missing too and Keith's network post was all she needed to have her making a beeline for the other's dorm. She's had enough sitting and waiting.

Keith is already outside by the time she gets there - she shouldn't be surprised, really, and Allura jogs to catch him before he goes running off by himself.]

I'm coming with you.

[And that's not all, there's four small mousy passengers on her shoulders, coming along. The more heads looking for them the better.]

[considering who her roommate is, he probably shouldnt be surprised to see allura, but he is all the same -- if only because it's late and even he can tell that the reasonable thing to do is wait until morning. too bad he's also restless and the idea of sleep is purely laughable.

pupper goes toddling over towards allura to greet her, the toad lets out a squeak that... maybe means something, who knows.]

Okay. But fair warning, I don't know where I'm going yet.

[Maybe it's the reasonable thing to do, but she's been texting Ana and waiting and sleep wasn't coming to her anyway. Besides, even if Ana and James came back while they were out, they would be safe whether Keith and Allura were there waiting for them or not.

She nods her understanding. Meanwhile the mice skitter down Allura's arm to hop on top of the canine's head, looking like little mouse-knights on their mount. Chuchule chitters something comforting to both of the animals.]

Where was James going when he went on his errand?

[cosmo stays still until the last mouse has hopped on his back and then twists around to try and greet them, too. perhaps the consoling chittering is helping? sir continues to look as amiable as ever, briefly turning green as he squeaks. whatever that means.]

He said something about needing to stop by Soleil before heading back up to campus. That's the only lead I have.

[unspoken: and it's not a good lead at all. he grits his teeth, then quickly turns away to head down the path towards town.]

What about Ana? When did you lose contact with her?

[She shakes her head,]

Not since this morning, she left to spend the holidays with Lance and she hasn't responded to any of my messages since then.

[Also not a good lead. Allura meters out a slow sigh, trying to think.]

At least we know that they weren't together when they disappeared. Do you think it could be a coincidence?

[A vampire naturally is up and about at night, especially after doing some research, he picked up the sounds of someone slamming a door, and makes his way towards the sound]

[keith freezes for a second before relaxing again. turns out some instincts like "oh crap, got caught" are just don't die easily, even if he hadn't exactly been quiet about leaving.]

... yeah. My roommate. He was supposed to be back today, but now he's not even replying to my messages.

[and yes, there is a part of him that realizes that he probably sounds a little paranoid, potentially a little needy but he wasn't getting sleep anyway.]

And that is not in character for him?

[A cursory question, but to go as far as to go late in the night, bringing a shirt for his pet to sniff - that answers it for him, but any answer Keith would vocalize could provide more information]

The professor I'm TAing for seems to be playing hooky as well.

[His half-lidded green eyes flicked, seeming luminous in the low light, but there's a sense of watchfulness]

No, I... [a pause.] I thought he might've been ignoring me, so I sent a couple of inflammatory messages. He wouldn't have ignored those.

[yes, inflammatory. he'll go with that description. that's a little besides the point though, isn't it. keith raises an eyebrow.]

And I'm guessing it's not normal for this professor to just be off doing their own thing unscheduled?

[daybreak faculty are uh.. a bit unpredictable like that in his experience.]

Oh, he might be the sort of man that always has a shady scheme or two up his sleeve - but when it comes to teaching students - he's more reliable than clockwork.

[He exhales, closing his eyes for the moment]

Do you remember anything unusual before he went off?

...well shit. How many people are missing?

[he frowns, wracking his brain.]

I... no, he said he was going home for thanksgiving and he left on the 27th and he was supposed to come back earlier today. He said something about not wanting to miss class so it was a really early flight back. He sent me a text saying he couldn't hang out until later because of a student council errand, but Jail's saying he never showed up to class at all.

[a deep breath.]

If it was just James that's disappeared, I'd guess that maybe this has something to do with that necromancer we pissed off, but Valvatorez, Adelaide, James and I... we saw her die. So I don't know.

[It just so happens that, as Keith slams his door, Therion's peering around the stairwell onto the fourth floor. The noise makes him flinch, but, hey, he's not the only one being weird and suspicious in here tonight. Better to focus on that.]

People are trying to sleep.

[oh great. someone who wants to lecture him while he's trying to figure out if his boyfriend is dead in a ditch or something. keith doesn't stop as he passes the guy on the stairwell, sleepy wolf and angry toad in tow.]

[To be fair, Therion usually is a problem. He's frowning as Keith passes, though.]

[When he tiptoed up here, he wasn't expecting to actually discover anything out of the ordinary--nothing to confirm his uneasy feeling about Jolyne's unaccounted-for dis- and reappearance. But another student leaving the dorm in the dead of night? Maybe it's not a coincidence.

He was giving the--dog? He was giving his weird glowing pet something to smell, right?]

[Keith meanwhile continues to head down the stairs taking them two at a time, clearly on a mission and not willing to be deterred from it.]

You gonna report me to the RA or something.

[He follows as far as the top stair.]

Is someone else missing from your floor?

[that at least gets a pause. he looks over his shoulder quickly.]

My roommate was supposed to be back today, but he isn't responding to my messages.

They turned back up after about a day, but it was like they didn't even know they were gone.

[There are only so many people on the fourth floor, and how many of them are girls? Therion's not gonna out his bro Jolyne like that.]

Thought it was weird, so I've been checking up here now and then.

[his eyes narrow, considering.]

Okay. I'm not the most social person around here so I wouldn't have noticed if someone was just gone for a day. Who was this?

[meanwhile the glowing pupper is just gonna inch towards therion to see if the dude will give ear scratches. might as well, considering they've all stopped moving for now.]

[Haha, no? No. Therion edges away from the alien sparkledog. Good boy. Stay. Away, that is.]

I'd rather not say. You know, just in case it is something completely innocuous and they just didn't want to tell me.

[holy fuck, alien glowdog is so disappointed now?? he stops moving towards therion then looks back to keith all confused. this has literally never happened before?! mind you, keith's takeaway from this is that anyone who doesn't like this particular good boy is obviously not trustworthy... somehow. it's not biased at all.]

But you're suspicious enough about it that you're stalking the fourth floor now?

[raised eyebrow. meanwhile he gestures for cosmo to come back, which he does with droopy ears.]

[If that was meant to sound defensive, though, it peters out quickly. They both have more important things to worry about, don't they?]

It's not like I want something to have happened. Just... [Therion glances away, fiddling with the drawstring of his hoodie.] ...Better safe than sorry.

[there's a frown at that first remark. keith clearly looks as though he has a couple of words to say in response adn though the look doesn't go away entirely after therion's own tone de-escalates, he remains quiet for another moment.]

Okay. So what are you most worried about?

[he'll resume going down the stairs with the doggo and glowing toad in tow.]

...That's part of the problem. Don't think I know enough to guess, with everything that happens here.

[He used to be but a simple thief. The magical possibilities are way beyond him.]

It's just that I've seen, when people get badly hurt, sometimes they... forget. Something goes wrong so horribly, they just can't even hold it in their heads for a while.

[Well, he might be faculty and not student council, but this message catches his eye as he burns the midnight oil. Valvatorez, after all, scarcely needed sleep. He took a minute to check the network, about fifteen minutes after Keith posted his message.

What can you tell me about the last you knew of either of them? There's a possibility it might be nothing, but if there's even the slightest possibility it's something, I will raise the other faculty members to look into it as well.

[Enough had happened lately that even the smallest possibility for alarm must be looked at seriously. Much less knowing both James and Ana were generally responsible and reliable individuals. ...Not to mention two of his favorite students.]

james went home on the 27th for thanksgiving, he was supposed to come back on an early flight back to france today cuz he "didn't want to miss class" but said he had some student council errand to do before he could meet up. jailbreak's saying he didn't even go to class so i don't know if he was even here. all i know is that when i messaged him at 4, he never responded not sure what ana's deal is. said she was going to visit her boyfriend for thanksgiving. just thought she'd be back by now, but her roommate says she hasn't heard from her in a few days.

i dont know what's going on, but i don't like it.

I don't either. James' record for attendance is nearly spotless, and unless he was sick or was on mission, he wouldn't be missing it. And if either of those things would happen, someone would've heard about it, be it you, or Jailbreak.

I will be informing other faculty of this. If there's something foul going on, we'll get to the bottom of it.

I will keep you in the loop, Keith. I suspect you'll be looking into things yourself as well?

[if it'd been a different set of circumstances, he'd honestly be laughing at the fact that james' attendance record is what's making his concerns seem warranted rather than paranoid. he didn't expect to be taken seriously by the faculty on this one, which is vaguely disorienting and makes him wonder if he's missing some other part of this himself, but for now he'll take it.]
