Valentine's Day Deliveries - UN: Shinigami

Heads up students, deliveries will be going out today. Most will be made to your dorm rooms between two and five this afternoon, unless you signed up to deliver a carnation to someone in the classroom, in which case it'll show up in the first five minutes. Don't be disruptive.

You can still drop off packages at Michael's office or my classroom, or buy carnations with a hand-written message for a euro a pop. Enjoy the holiday. See you at the ball.

What's an ollin anyway?

I have fantastic taste but I'll let you change the subject this time.

Ollin is an old cultural thing. I've told you that I never knew my family but, I did know a little bit of my heritage. Not sure how much of my background it is but it's at least partially mine. I like to think things like this connect me back.

Anyway, you pronounce it like "all in" and that's kind of what it means. It stems from words in the Nahuatl language meaning heart and life, and combines in its new form to mean movement. So, to move with all heart and soul.

The Aztecs had this thing about wearing your heart on your face, which might sound strange, but it's about making sure you're seeing things clearly without setting feelings aside. You have to go forward with heart and intent, and not just alone, but with all those around you. A community seeking ollin.

These concepts come up a lot in symbols and it would probably take all day to go into even the meanings of just one. But, ah, the symbol I'm talking is pretty famous in my culture. You can find it on the Aztec calendar even, and the meaning I always really liked was [Don't laugh at the irony Gamma, he swears...] a full completion of the life and death cycle. A fullfillment, you know? I used to have a belt buckle with the symbol, and then two crossed guitars over top. Really cool.

[Gamma rubs his forehead as he reads. Truth be told, he's not a particularly bright man, and he's not that cultured either. Big shock. All he can think is that it must have worn out Hector's thumbs to type all that up, and that he really doesn't get any of this. But given that he knows nothing about his own family or heritage, he can at least get that this is definitely too important to his friend for Gamma to make any joking or sarcastic remarks.]

It's just a stupid computer name, no one cares what I choose. Nickname I picked up in my younger days. It's cool as hell, that's good enough.

You ordering or delivering anything?

Your crazy younger days. You say like you're even that old. [Just a year younger than he was when he died.] Your silver hair don't make you no abuelo.

I'll admit it's cool. And that, no, I'm just hassling you like a jerk. But I can step up if any delivery kids wind up sick or whatever and you need a spare.

Age has nothing to do with it. I was a completely different person back then.

You'd know best. She's making deliveries to three guys, by the way, noticed you're not one of em. Pretty sure they're not competition though if that helps put your mind at ease.

[He's pretty sure Ekkehardt and Hieke aren't into chicks. And he definitely can't see her fawning over Michael. He's so OLD.]
