foolishjustice: (So I see...)

UN: G.Akechi

There have been a lot of strange incidents over the past months, where people abruptly lost control of themselves and acted on repressed desires, without regard for consequences. I'd like to provide an explanation for them.

When I arrived here, it was at the behest of a powerful and dangerous mage by the name of Masayoshi Shido. He wanted me to sabotage the school, and undermine the faith of both the students and the larger magical community in Daybreak's ability to manage and protect Candles. He wanted to weaken the school's image, in order to take over as the one in charge of overseeing the development of Flames.

He ordered this in complete awareness that such an upset would only hurt humanity's chances of overcoming Nightfall. His only priority was that he, and the people he deemed significant, survived and were able to continue leading their privileged lives. He believed himself to be a destined savior, but thought only a select few were worth saving, even if it meant turning his back on the masses.

I'm coming forward with this now because his conspiracy is finally undone. I told Daybreak's faculty of his schemes in October, and we were finally able to mount a covert counterattack at the end of last month. He wasn't alone in these plans, but his accomplices should be in too much disarray for a while to react effectively. I think I owe this explanation to everyone who's been affected by my actions, so I decided to say something now, while I have the breathing room.

This isn't a plea for forgiveness or mercy, I know everyone this matters to has every right to hate me. But I do hope you sleep a little better, knowing what happened and that there's no further chance of it happening again.

That's a good way to keep the ball rolling. Just never forget what happened to you, and do your best to protect others from the same fate. And if you can do it without hurting others, so much the better.

Can't blame you in not trusting authority figures anymore either. But the good ones know that Lady Justice is blind, but not deaf. Circumstance and context matter. Daybreak's been pretty reasonable with all of us, when it gets down to it, and I think they get it more than you might think.

Hey, learning to adapt what you have is an important skill. You may not be able to become a scalpel, but... going from a wrecking ball to a more precise demolition might even be a start.

I'm not great with metaphors. Sorry.

And... yeah, that'd do it. But they do exist, sometimes. But they're not as common as they should be.

Bound to be a time that it could come in handy. Never know when someone might need a bit of a push, so to speak. If you have a way to turn it off, anyway.

Wish I could say I was surprised about that list, though.

[There's a few moments between messages as Gunvolt stops to think. Shido really had his hands in a lot of things, from what he managed to pick up, and.... well, there was something that was bothering him.]

...Hey, Akechi. Did Shido have any business with the Sumeragi Group? The big energy and electronics corporation over there?

They've been big on running a clandestine Candle exploitation ring... sounds like something he probably would've interested in.

...I would. Given the kinds of dangers Sumeragi's programs might represent to Candles going forward, getting a chance to investigate them further is a lead I can't pass up.

It's possible Shido's connections aren't part of what I'm looking to stop, so I'll have to be thorough before I jump to any conclusions.

[Though odds are, whoever they were probably weren't innocent, but he's not about to forego doing due diligence.]

Thanks, Akechi. I appreciate it. Taking down Sumeragi after what they've done... and are continuing to do, will go a long way to making the world better.

[....Part of him realized that in so doing would probably make Asimov rest in peace more easily. Not something he really wanted to think about, but would probably be for the best; even a broken clock could be right twice a day.]

...There are more names here than I expected. Guess I'll be busy. ...Can I count on you for help, if I need it?
