It doesn't cost me anything to make them as I use school resources and I usually learn something from the development process that furthers my own education. Additionally, strengthening my allies is a net benefit for me anyway.

Everyone else has been getting combat equipment though, so I suppose if this was merely a convenience item it would be reasonable to charge.

From an etymological standpoint it's likely the original definition of finger included the thumb because the term from which finger is derived in most Eurasian languages is closely related to the word for five, so the next time someone is a stickler in that regard you can inform them they are simply misinformed, or more likely in your case 'a fucking idiot.'
