ladies and gentlemen are you rrrrready for LAAADYBUG RAAACING?

Time to meet our competitors! This will be a first race for both of them for different reasons so they'll need all the support they can get.

On our left we have the racer in red, but don't let his size fool you. Just because he's big doesn't mean he can't be a blur on the tracks (relative to other rocks painted like ladybugs). Taken out of last racing season by an unexpected injury, he's had to work hard for recovery. Is he ready or is he putting himself at risk for relapse? Red’s ready for all of you to find out!

On our right is the smaller speedster in orange. Little as he is, he's ready to prove he has what it takes to make it in the big leagues. This is Orange’s first official race out of ladybug high school, where he was captain of the track team. Pretty sure those have captains, but if not then he was just so awesome that they made up the position for him. Anyway he also really wants to win.

WHO SHALL WIN? Your cheers might just be the extra push they need to outrun the other and make it across the finish line. Be sure to back the bug you want to see win the gold!

(If it's not clear enough for you, comment with encouragement for whichever rock you like better and I'll move it forward, first to make it to the end of the hall will be the winner for whatever that's worth.)

edit: the crowd goes wild here from now on, the rest is for talking

[And while I'm obviously not going to do it, Cliff will be updating with pictures of the rocks as they move forward.]

I have a few things to discuss with everyone at large, so I believe the network will be the best avenue to approach this.

Firstly, my classes will be put on hold for a while - most likely only a week or two, barring any unforseen complications.

The reason for this is that I will be having spinal surgery done by Ekkehardt in a few days, so while I assume the recovery process will not be long - it never hurts to be thorough about such things.

Second, I would also like to extend an invitation to anyone who is curious to come and watch the procedure - I'm told that my condition is a bit...unusual, and I believe it could potentially be a fine learning experience for those interested.

And Third also ties into the procedure itself, as Ekkehardt will have to behead me in order for for him to have enough time to carry it out, as my death is the only thing that halts my regeneration for a bit. Though this sounds extreme, I am actually caught in a liminal state between life and death - A sort of odd undead, though I am still human enough to pass within general society. If this disturbs you, then I would suggest not attending.

Lastly, I wish to extend my well wishes towards the students and faculty for the new year, and hope that we can all strive towards excellence - both academically and personally.

so imagine you're making ratatouille and you don't like tomatoes. you don't like the taste, the texture, the putting them in water and the peeling them-- ugh! so you say to yourself "lookit, this whole dish is nothing but vegetables, so what does it matter if i leave the tomatoes out?" a seemingly innocuous decision on the surface, but 2 hours or whatever later when you're done cooking, you open the oven to find a complete mess! just a pot full of baked vegetables, none of them congealed or somehow unified. what happened to your beloved ratatouille?! so you take to google and find that the tomatoes are an essential ingredient of ratatouille, as they forma a "sauce" of a certain kind that makes the whole thing work. and so a seemingly innocent decision has destroyed the very foundation of the established order with disturbing ramifications towards the whole. in this essay i will examine how martin luther's 95 theses lead to protestants being more boring than catholics.
