There have been a lot of strange incidents over the past months, where people abruptly lost control of themselves and acted on repressed desires, without regard for consequences. I'd like to provide an explanation for them.
When I arrived here, it was at the behest of a powerful and dangerous mage by the name of Masayoshi Shido. He wanted me to sabotage the school, and undermine the faith of both the students and the larger magical community in Daybreak's ability to manage and protect Candles. He wanted to weaken the school's image, in order to take over as the one in charge of overseeing the development of Flames.
He ordered this in complete awareness that such an upset would only hurt humanity's chances of overcoming Nightfall. His only priority was that he, and the people he deemed significant, survived and were able to continue leading their privileged lives. He believed himself to be a destined savior, but thought only a select few were worth saving, even if it meant turning his back on the masses.
I'm coming forward with this now because his conspiracy is finally undone. I told Daybreak's faculty of his schemes in October, and we were finally able to mount a covert counterattack at the end of last month. He wasn't alone in these plans, but his accomplices should be in too much disarray for a while to react effectively. I think I owe this explanation to everyone who's been affected by my actions, so I decided to say something now, while I have the breathing room.
This isn't a plea for forgiveness or mercy, I know everyone this matters to has every right to hate me. But I do hope you sleep a little better, knowing what happened and that there's no further chance of it happening again.

we said you're not getting executed.
that was like the first thing we said about it.
stop suggesting your own execution.

But I guess I don't have much right to hope for the more merciful option.

Please stop making assumptions like this

I'd most likely share Shido's sentence as an accomplice.

I don't know what the courts are like here, either.
Maybe they aren't as bad about favoring the prosecution.
no subject
and not what we're doing either.
smart money's on an ankle monitor and mandatory therapy, we're still talking it over.
but also the school isn't super into actual child abuse.
no subject
And that is what my actions here boil down to, isn't it?
no subject
...oh you think we have to actually follow laws.
that's adorable.
hahahahaha no.
...actually i think that might still legally be a human rights violation even for terrorism, solitary confinement is legit classified as torture in, like, a fuckmillion countries.
not my department, tho.
better off asking atchison about that one.
but yeah, none of the legal systems whose jurisdiction you did crimes in know shit about fuck, magic-wise, so it's pretty much up to daybreak.
which, again, not big on child abuse like as an organization.
at least not in this century, things were kind of weird back in the 1800s.

I always figured I'd at least end up confessing to mundane equivalents for the sake of exposing Shido's crimes.
But I guess with his confession, that's not as necessary.

[You're killing her, Akechi. You are killing your professor.]
short version is that the supernatural world tends to be pretty self-governing.
sometimes that's good, sometimes that's a fucking nightmare, sometimes it makes for hilarious slapfights about monetary compensation, but it is what it is.
major supernatural involvement automatically overrides anything else.
basically you wanna think of daybreak academy as a country unto itself in this case.
you turned yourself in here, you're getting sentenced by our
dictator for until retirementheadmistress.[Morally, it's kind of fucked up, but that's not really the point.]
no subject
Fuck, I didn't even know about the greater magical world until Shido decided I would be more useful if I did.
I'm still not exactly eager to trust authority, but I guess it's a good sign that they let me be involved in this.
I'm still not entirely confident that wasn't just because I knew the Palace, though.
no subject
just saying you might wanna take a deep breath and not make assumptions, ok?
your life is already way weirder than you thought it was gonna be, this might as well happen.

You've already started by stopping Shido. Make further good by putting in the time to help others and earn your redemption instead of wallowing in what punishment you think you deserve.

I already have a list of names to release to help bring down the rest of the conspiracy.
I've actually put a lot of effort over the years into making sure I could tear the entire thing to the ground.
But I guess I don't have a lot of faith in authority figures to be merciful.
no subject
Can't blame you in not trusting authority figures anymore either. But the good ones know that Lady Justice is blind, but not deaf. Circumstance and context matter. Daybreak's been pretty reasonable with all of us, when it gets down to it, and I think they get it more than you might think.
no subject
Not to mention more mundane resources.
The idea of reasonable authority is pretty strange, though.
I did just get out of a conspiracy involving a shit ton of corrupt authority figures.
no subject
I'm not great with metaphors. Sorry.
And... yeah, that'd do it. But they do exist, sometimes. But they're not as common as they should be.
no subject
It can increase the power of its target, so it's not strictly a destructive ability.
Its tactical uses are just pretty limited when nobody is expecting someone to lose restraint.
They're not. The list of names I have is way too damn long.
no subject
Wish I could say I was surprised about that list, though.
[There's a few moments between messages as Gunvolt stops to think. Shido really had his hands in a lot of things, from what he managed to pick up, and.... well, there was something that was bothering him.]
...Hey, Akechi. Did Shido have any business with the Sumeragi Group? The big energy and electronics corporation over there?
They've been big on running a clandestine Candle exploitation ring... sounds like something he probably would've interested in.
no subject
He did have clients in the Sumeragi Group, yes. Do you want their names?
no subject
It's possible Shido's connections aren't part of what I'm looking to stop, so I'll have to be thorough before I jump to any conclusions.
[Though odds are, whoever they were probably weren't innocent, but he's not about to forego doing due diligence.]
no subject
[And attached is a list of names of those affiliated with both the Sumeragi Group and the Rising Sun Coalition.]
no subject
[....Part of him realized that in so doing would probably make Asimov rest in peace more easily. Not something he really wanted to think about, but would probably be for the best; even a broken clock could be right twice a day.]
...There are more names here than I expected. Guess I'll be busy. ...Can I count on you for help, if I need it?
