You know, at first I thought I had you all wrong. I thought these April pranks were cool and that you finally understood stuff. I thought we could have a good time and we wouldn't even leave any corpses behind. But noooo. I mean, come on, you guys switch bodies and stuff it's "just a prank" and "all in good fun" but when I want to make a friend I'm "evil" and "a danger to everyone around me". You guys are lame. This isn't a fun trick at all. >::(

It may be a fact of life, but there is a difference between letting someone die naturally and taking matters into your own hands.

The latter means more.

I'm a daemon! And I prefer the term "symbiotic" over "parasitic"! I'm not just taking, I'm giving!

Giving power, I presume, as daemons do to those that come under their influence.

I have not heard of any that need or want hosts, however.

Sometimes! But a lot of my hosts want normal human things. Like to remove competition in their jobs so they can make a lot of money. Or to be pretty or fix something about them. Or to get rid of people who are hurting them. Or because they're lonely.

My kind requires hosts. It's specific to my species of Daemon. It's how we grow! I don't know why you haven't heard of us. But I don't think I've heard of you either, so it works out.

A creature like yourself is just more proof of the failures of humanity. Those are petty, inconsequential things, and yet they believe themselves to be superior to even that they do not understand?

There is a reason no one knows who I am.

It's because you're rude, right? I bet it's because you're rude.

My hosts are silly sometimes, but I still love them. They're beautiful. There are so many wonderful things about them. And when they pick me, I get to be part of it. And I can protect them from the ones who are wrong.

It is because I am what I was created to be.

They are greedy and selfish and only wish to use you for their own desires. What about that is beautiful?

Every being wants. I don't think that's bad.

My hosts call me for help. They feel alone and trapped and so they call me. They give me a body, and they give me their soul, and I get to grow with them. I can experience the joys of life, I can feel their happiness when I make their dreams come true, and I can know the beautiful feeling of togetherness. Some of them create such beauty. Some of them fix things or help others. Some of them are cruel but still, they live so free. They have little things like ice cream and big things like bridges as tall as mountains. They change and become all the time, all on their own too. Sometimes they get to me, and they love me, and that's the best of all. There is so much that is beautiful. It's sad that no one sees it.

Humans have no respect for the way of the world. They scorn the shadows and refuse to feel the true extent of emotion. They treat despair, anger, grief as things that are lesser, and yet you say they are beautiful for their selfishness? Those humans want an incomplete life, whether or not they love you. What is sad is the fact that nobody truly embraces life to the fullest.

Well, no, because I don't know you.

But you don't know my hosts. To reach out to me is to feel that despair, anger, and grief so fully, they must make a sacrifice. It means the pain in their hearts is too much to bear alone. And so I take that pain and I make it mine. The world is already full of suffering, but being able to share that good or bad means going further than we ever would have. I have lived short human lifetimes. I would never call them incomplete.

No one does.

[They have been erased from history, wiped away from memory, and perhaps it's better that way.]

I do not know them, but I have known humans. I have seen the lengths they will go to escape that which they do not want to face, I have seen them tear themselves and others to pieces for a hope of erasing things like despair from the world entirely.

Though would it not be better to embrace it? To accept all that life has to offer means accepting that which is unpleasant, not trying to erase or replace it because of your own selfish desires. Snuffing out those parts of you... What do you have to gain?

Everything.

I gain everything.

I gain life and growth, friendship and memory. I gain a heart that is full of experience.

It is easy to be sad. Unhappiness is as simple as doing nothing. Stagnancy fosters itself until death. But happiness is action. You reach for it and create. You have to be willing to get it. And if you're not willing, then your life is imbalanced. My hosts may endure years of pain before I am called to bring them joy.

The world will never be without despair. I would not survive without it. But that means I can act. I can do something for them. And having known pain, we can know even more how much that joy is worth. Nothing is snuffed. I am a collector. I change. But it is all here within me.

If the world will never be without despair, why am I so hated?

I don't know. You would have to let me in, for me to know you. But I don't see much reason to hate you at the moment.

There are ways to know people without consuming them, little one. I am sure you will come to hate me in time.

Consuming isn't how I know them. It's a bond.

And you don't know that. You're just assuming.
