okay so

some kind anon made me look really cool on the network the other day
so i have to set the record straight
that flippy thing is surrounded by a whole bunch of me being the least cool dude on the planet so here it is

[ The video is pretty much exactly as-is, except it cuts off right before Tony Stark shows up at the end (and skips the end part in the car entirely). Also the other superheroes have clear AU versions of their powers. Rune-powered suits, Candle enhancements, etc. ]

This is how they recruited you. This is how your hunter gang, the Avengers, recruited you. To break up their in-fighting.

[Is that a muffled sound of someone screaming frustration into a pillow several doors over that Peter hears? No, it couldn't be.]

Alright. And I'm assuming they fixed this some time after you got thrown into a truck.

see my mentors group is mostly normal people with special rune equipment so they needed someone with actual superpowers

[ Wow, sounds like someone isn’t having a good time. ]

they sent me home right after and didn’t talk to me much until thanos

[ He might be a little sore about that, despite that objectively being the best thing the Avengers ever did for him. ]

[Most of him agrees; it was definitely the best thing. But the rest of him? He's mostly just thinking these guys suck. Used the kid twice, once for in-fighting and got him killed on the second round. Great. Awesome. He is absolutely seething furious and he's got to bottle it all down.]

More or less. You'd think being adults they could just talk it out instead but I guess not.

[Mostly bottle it. God he could use a bottle of something right now.]

How'd they even find you? Like, you specifically. Did they really not know any other super power people like... at all?

[ Sorry, Héctor. There’s a reason why May and Gwen don’t particularly like this Hunter group. ]

[ Given that they recognized the fact that they were fighting a literal child okay. ]

I guess the leader of the other group had almost all of em yeah
My mentor saw some videos I posted of myself doing super power stuff on the internet and tracked me down
I guess uh that’s kind of a super bad thing to do what with the veil of secrecy and stuff?
Anyway I almost didn’t go, it was kinda crazy at the time
Ben had just died a couple weeks ago
But he kinda threatened to tell my aunt so

[ He means it lightly!! Ha ha, isn’t that funny. Being borderline blackmailed into risking his life for a dumb Hunter fight. ]

[Just when he thinks he's mad enough, that's when he sees the last message here. And he sees red.

There isn't a further response. What there is instead is the sudden sound of door banging open and slamming shut. Soon following is a vicious stream of furious Spanish ranting. There are some words in there that are definitely not polite. A glance into the hall will reveal Héctor, hands gesturing wild and angry as he paces the floor back and forth.

It's gonna be a good few mitnues before he comes back.

If he comes back.]

[ UM

The text cutting off is concerning, but worse is all the cursing he hears in the hallway. Pete’s in his room, so he pokes his head out to look at him. Poor angry skeleton uncle. ]

Tío Héctor? Are you okay?

[ What did he say?? ]

[His back is turned when Peter peers out and so the voice has him whirling, snapping out.]

ESTOY BIEN!!!

[And then he stops, hands still held like he's strangling some invisible neck, eyes filled with rage. He breathes deep. And keeps trying to.]

Estoy bien... estoy bien... I'm... fine, mijo...

[That smile that looks more like an animal's snarl says otherwise.]

[ Yeah uh. If Héctor was trying not to worry Peter, he failed miserably. Also, that’s a hell of an expression? Has he ever seen Héctor quite that angry before? He doesn’t think so. ]

Hey man. You don’t look so bien to me.

[ He exits his room, closing the door behind him. ]

Are you mad at me or something?

[ Of all things, it's that tentatively spoken question that deflates his anger most. He lets out one more sigh, shoulders dropping and a hand going up to his face. ]

No... No, Peter, I'm not mad at you.

[His thumb and fingers press upon his temples.]

I... am angry... at your Avengers. I am angry that they used you... and they manipulated you... and they hurt, and abandoned you, and got you thinking that you were a part of something as they did all this to you... and that they used Tía May. They used her, against you, got you involved in this stuff I don't agree with, and they did it right on the heels of your Tío's death, did this to all three of you, and I- I-

[He can't speak. He's so angry he can't speak.]

I hate- I hated hunters to begin with. But this- this- Peter, this crosses so many lines.

[ Peter looks alarmed for a moment, then - quiet. Not rushing to the Avengers’ defense which is, perhaps, a telltale sign. He’s a little angry at them for abandoning him now. He... hadn’t really put together all the rest of it until just now, but when Héctor lays it out in so many words... yikes. Double yikes.

He swallows a bit, trying to think of what to say. ]

You make it sound really bad. I agreed to all of it, remember? And the stuff I did was important.

[ But it’s a weak defense and he knows it. So he tries something else. ]

If they hadn’t recruited me then, I’d still have run into trouble back home. There was a guy who nearly killed me in October - the Vulture or something like that. I’d have fought him whether the Avengers found me or not. And - like, that suit they’d made me? I’d have been dead for sure without it.

[ He’ll just leave out the part where his mentor took it back. And then Peter promptly had a gas station dropped on him. ]

Peter, that doesn't help.

[He can see the kid's trying to make this easier but if anything it's making this all worse. Especially not talking about what would've killed him otherwise.]

You're a teenage boy, and faced with all that. Of course you were going to agree. I know you're a hero, that this is what you do, but that doesn't make them right.

Where even is that suit now?

[Because he definitely should have seen it before.]

[ Gee, it's like he died under their watch anyway.

Peter winces a bit, rubbing at the back of his neck. Momentarily distracted from trying to explain the Avengers by that question. ]

I don't know. It got torn up really badly on the fight with Thanos - I think I lost it.

[ Or, y'know, it was disintegrated along with Peter. ]

[He really should've guessed that. May had told him there wasn't much left of the kid, how much would there even be of that stupid suit? The image of ashes in his mind is leaving him ill as he thinks, silent.]

You're getting a new one. Not literally a new one of that, but you need something. I want you studying every possible self-protective rune there is, every spell, every enchanted piece of armor, everything before you go rushing back into this. I don't want another scratch on you if a bomb goes off, do you understand me?

And I know you won't listen, but I'm going to say it; if you were going to able to keep one single secret, Peter, it shouldn't have been the one from your family. Tía May shouldn't have ever been the excuse for you to get hurt.

[He can't even imagine how hearing something like that would make her feel.]

[ Sorry, Héctor. At least his discomfort gets Peter to listen more than he normally would. He sort of jolts at that, not expecting that response. ]

You're not going to tell me to stop?

[ Sorry, he'll loop back to the subject of telling May, he swears. But this first. ]

I really, really wish I could, but I know you, Mijo, and you won't. If I can't ask you to keep yourself safe one way then all that's left is asking you to do it smarter.

[Or throwing runic barriers on a room but that's not actually an option.]

[ Yeah that won't end well for a lot of reasons. ]

I - I mean - I guess I could do a lot with runes on a suit. That's the only kind of magic I can even kind of cast. I could research all kinds of things to make regular fabric stronger than a suit of armor.

[ He's perking up at that, interest lighting in his eyes. Good suggestion, Héctor. ]

[Good suggestion and yet he's filled with dread.]

Ask others for help too. People who know what they're doing. And don't take any of this as an excuse to be more reckless.

Right, right. I don't actually want to worry you, you know. Or May.

[ A pause. He lifts a hand to his forehead, idly rubbing at the scars there. Funny, there's one line there now that definitely wasn't present the last time Héctor saw Peter. ]

[He winces when he sees that line-- and the addition. He doesn't know what it means for who knows what, but the result's the same. He heaves a sigh, and steps forward, carefully, he moves Peter's hand aside, so he can see the scars on their own. He pushes Peter's hair back and then lets it fall again into place.]

You're a powerful kid. More so than a lot of people I know. But you're not invincible. We're going to worry, no matter what. Just let us help how we can.

[ Peter winces a bit as Héctor does that. Not because the gesture hurts - his head is perfectly fine, in fact - but he's thinking about the weirdness with Hieke. And debating whether to say anything to Héctor about it. ]

I know, I know. And I'll go to you for help if I'm really worried about something, okay?

Okay.

[And while he's still this close he wraps his arms around Peter and holds him tight.

Then he steps back, putting on the smallest of smiles.]

Now go. Back to your adoring spider fans.

[ Aww. Okay, decision made, he's not gonna ruin it by talking about magic allergies or Hieke. This is too cute. He beams up at Héc for a moment, and gently returns the hug. Maybe lifting him up a bit before letting him go. ]

Okay, okay. Just don't freak out this time.

[He can't help laughing a little when the boy lifts him. Even in this moment.]

I told you. [He grins then, teasing.] I'll do that when you stop giving me things to freak out over.

[And in the meantime, he's got some things to do. Peter might not be telling him about Hieke but that doesn't mean he's leaving that new scar uninvestigated.

It was time to find an ally.]
