so bumble got me thinking
well first of all maverick's the "cafe" run by (you fucking guessed it) maverick (that's me) will still be just inside the lum dorms for weekdays even though there'll be fucking cameras around I guess

no more popsicles since that one asshole took off and won't answer his fucking phone but there's plenty of hot chocolate, temp tattoos, and bumble has so graciously agreed to provide cookies on occasion.
the tats are kinda in limited supply but hey that's what markers are for
and if you want someone educating on tattoos, it's gotta be me I'm great
all this cafe shit is supposed to be for rounding up loose kids but if you need a sugar rush I ain't gonna stop you
unless like...it sounds super fucking funny at the time

anyway second of all, the part she actually got me thinking about
I checked with Mama and she said the camera crew is staying somewhere else so her base has space

if you need some time (like a couple days) minus a kiddo or they just can't fucking be around during that tv shit because they look or act like a freak show

weirdo-friendly, respects your privacy, nice as shit, food's kickass, the manager's a total babe, you get the idea
normally she'd super fucking frown on just dumping a kid at her doors but she gets this shit is kinda a weird circumstance

Yeah, I am. I'm really fucking lucky, she's a cool lady. Turns out that when all sorts of people treat you like you're garbage, you're willing to look past the fact that the kid you found was literally in a fucking dumpster when it comes time to decide how you're gonna be treating him, so I got to dodge that shit.

The ones who didn't say it was her own fault, anyway. The pieces of shit didn't care that he used her, then threw her away like garbage. If it's anyone's fault she ended up with that stigma, it's his.

[Maverick goes quiet, not because he wants to disengage from the conversation, or that he didn't have thoughts to share about it, but...there was just a lot he didn't know. Including how someone is supposed to be helpful at all in a situation like this where he has no clue about the culture, or the people, or the stability of the other person in the conversation. Who knows if anything he said would even matter?]

[He sighs, rolling over so that he's facing the wall.]

That's actually what started me on the path of a detective. My father is powerful enough that he can get away with shit like that, and I wanted to be able to bring people like that to justice. It's...maybe a little petty and personal as far as reasons to want to influence a society go, but it's enough to motivate me.

[He's still kind of on edge despite his sympathy, so he takes a moment to breathe a slow, quiet sigh in and out before he speaks.]

Heard worse reasons. Heard way worse causes.

It's sure as fuck better than greed, or an ego the size of Mount Fuji, like most people involved in high profile careers.

[Mav give a hum of mock-doubt.]

There's a difference between being proud of your accomplishments and being just plain proud. I'm talking about people who look down their noses at everyone else and act like they deserve to boss them around because the sun shines out their asses.

[This time his sigh is a bit louder and he only pauses a second before chucking his pillow hard at Akechi. His aim is shitty, it doesn't hit, and now he's down a pillow. Damn.]

You could stand to lighten the fuck up, you know that?

[He rolls over to throw it back. His aim is...truly impressive.]

I'll lighten the fuck up when I actually have a chance to relax without immediately coming back to shit like reporters showing up on my doorstep.

[but yay, his pillow is back. Maverick hugs it to his chest and rests his chin on it as he watches Akechi.]

You barely fucking relax when you're "relaxing", all you do is bitch about other shit. There ain't no reporters or stalkers or dads in here, just me. [and me and you again] The fucking point of letting off steam is to actually, you know, let some of that steam go.

[He lets out a sigh and flops back down.]

I've got a fuckton of it built up...and relaxing at school isn't exactly easy. Believe it or not, I worry about my grades, too.

I actually did manage to relax over spring break. I can't even remember the last time I was in that good a mood.

[Still better than curling against the wall or hauling off to set the place ablaze, he'll take it.]

Soooo when you fucking let yourself indulge in shit you like, you feel happy. Holy shit, my mind is blown. You're so fucking stupid.

...Maybe I should add occasional spa trips to my 'list of shit to save up for'. I actually got some decent fucking sleep for once when I stopped there before bed.

And hey, the room smells nice.

[Because Akechi smells nice. Like super, unfairly nice. If he did have a crush, this would be driving him absolutely insane because he'd want to bury his face in this asshole's neck to soak it all in.]

Marsaille has some fucking amazing scented soaps. Apparently French scented soaps originated there, so they have some of the best you can find. It blows my normal body wash out of the water.

Would you take bartering instead of begging? Help me out with my shoulders and back, and you can use the soap. Hell, I'll even let you pick the scent, I got a few.

[It's secretly hilarious to Mav that Akechi is genuinely just like this about some things, even with his rough mannerisms. This must be what it's like when people see Mav with his stupid, cute cat paraphernalia.]
