I have a few things to discuss with everyone at large, so I believe the network will be the best avenue to approach this.
Firstly, my classes will be put on hold for a while - most likely only a week or two, barring any unforseen complications.
The reason for this is that I will be having spinal surgery done by Ekkehardt in a few days, so while I assume the recovery process will not be long - it never hurts to be thorough about such things.
Second, I would also like to extend an invitation to anyone who is curious to come and watch the procedure - I'm told that my condition is a bit...unusual, and I believe it could potentially be a fine learning experience for those interested.
And Third also ties into the procedure itself, as Ekkehardt will have to behead me in order for for him to have enough time to carry it out, as my death is the only thing that halts my regeneration for a bit. Though this sounds extreme, I am actually caught in a liminal state between life and death - A sort of odd undead, though I am still human enough to pass within general society. If this disturbs you, then I would suggest not attending.
Lastly, I wish to extend my well wishes towards the students and faculty for the new year, and hope that we can all strive towards excellence - both academically and personally.

My solution would operate closer to a single, solid flexible shaft, making it impossible for it to grind against itself or be broken by impacts. It'd be encased in a slightly more rigid and durable tube, which would protect the nervous system and be designed to prevent excessive flexibility- unless you'd like to be able to roll up into a ball. And with the necessary link to your nerves, it would be possible to give you a transmitter for controlling additional equipment without an external control device. Or add extra appendages.
How I would implement the improvements would depend on how your regeneration operates- I'm assuming you've tested that foreign objects are not ejected, like a splinter? Otherwise whatever we're putting in will come out anyway. If something like an earring stays in place, it shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise, I would have to cultivate an altered spine using your own cells, but it's all doable.
[ He thinks about replacing spines a lot. He's 7'4, he's been in agony for years with his back. If he could reach back there, he'd swap his own. ]

Rex has thought about this a lot, hasn't he?]
You are correct in that evolution hasn't been the kindest to humans...quite honestly, all of this sounds facinating, and I'd be fine with it. I can indeed confirm that my regeneration allows for things like earrings - the issue with those, of course, is that it will merely grow around it, thus I'd have to tear the skin around it to take it out.
As for the spine itself - from what I understand, my magic has made a 'replacement' of sorts, functioning for it - the issue is that it is attempting to hear the remnants of my original spine, and thus is constantly active. It being so active right next to my nervous system excites the nerve endings and, well..
[It leads to ABJECT AGONY 24/7.]
So I believe it would be better to create a 'lattice' for my magic to hang onto so that it is away from my nerve endings. I am fascinated by the idea of being able to wirelessly control other equipment using it, but I would have to veto extra limbs for now.

[ Hah-hah, gross. ]
But if it's healed over, that's excellent. It'll be the medical equivalent of bean canes. Providing a frame for it to grow over as you suggest is simple enough, though it might make future injuries worse if you undergo similar trauma if your spine tries to grow around a distorted lattice. So please avoid further catastrophic spinal injuries or you may be reduced to a twisted mess.
[ Rex always considers the worst possible situations. Always. All the time. ]
As for inserting a transmitter, it'd involve a small addition to the base of your spine that would use nerves left over from vestigial muscles.
[ And it would almost certainly also be some sort of monitoring device for Rex to try and copy the regeneration stuff. Because he's Rex. ]

[It is funny to imagine, though!]
And yes, that seems like the best outcome for this situation. I suppose allowing that transmitter would be fine as well - though I suspect it's also a monitoring device?
[Because, well.
Moriarty's not dumb.]

Correct.
[ No point arguing. Though he's not gonna reveal just how good he is at gathering data and making things (people) out of it. ]
It will gather data on your regeneration and general health to ensure the process goes well.

[Yeah no, this is absolutely for other monitoring purposes, but he wants to see where the kid's going with this.]
Then I suppose I'll be 'seeing' you at the surgery?
