Real talk:

Does anyone here not have some kind of fucking childhood trauma bullshit? Goddamn, this is fucking pathetic to watch.

[YOU ARE LITERALLY ONE OF THEM, JOLYNE...]

Also, anyone that's got some anatomy knowledge, I have a quick question: how long does it generally take for someone to bleed out from a minor wound? Enough to need stitches but not enough to require surgery otherwise. Asking for my own curious brain, I swear to fuck I haven't done anything to warrant this question. Just idle weird thoughts.

Okay, actually, one more question. Skin grows back, doesn't it??????

I can attest that skin does grow back. Sadly, I can't say that I don't have some kind of childhood trauma.

I'm pretty sure skin grows back yeah.

As for the first thing you asked, no childhood trauma here. Good parents, no horrifying tragedies, I'd like to think I'm pretty well-adjusted...

1. That's private!
2. I would ask what sort of wound, but 3 seems to answer that. What in the world did you do?
3. I think so? I mean, that's what scar tissue is, right?

in theory we probably have plenty of well-adjusted ppl, but you are literally never going to talk to them because they just keep their heads down and don't get noticed.
like, no one remembers the network post where someone says "my life was ok, i saw a dog once".
it just doesn't fucking stick.

btw i saw a dog today and it was awesome.

re: the skin thing, not a medic but i think it depends on how much skin you lose.
plus whether it gets infected, how deep the wound was, etc etc
so i guess the answer is "probably but sometimes no because fuck you, biology".

If the blow strikes an artery, it will be fast. Otherwise, such deep wounds take much longer, hours or even days. Though if there is no attempt to stem the bleeding, hours is likely.

Actually, I had quite the idyllic childhood. My adopted family loved me quite a bit, after all.

[GRANTED HIS BIRTH FAMILY WAS PRETTY FUCKED UP but hey]

Anyway, most minor wounds end up clotting before the tide of blood gets to that level of issue - barring, of course, any condition that stops that process. It depends on the depth of the wound and where it is located as well, but a minor would would take hours and constant agitation to get to anything approaching major blood loss.

...Skin does grow back, yes, as long as it isn't too damaged.

[There is a long pause before he responds to this, and part of him seriously considers getting up, walking the few feet to his door, opening it, and walking across the hall just to see if she was actually okay. Because this did not sound quite as okay as she probably wants it to.

He's not worried about her physically, but wanting to make sure she didn't damage her head.

Then he stares at the post a bit more, before deciding to respond there. He'd take the effort later if there was still signs it was needed.]

Depending on the size of the wound, where it is, and who is bleeding will determine. Many minor wounds seal up on their own with clotting before someone can bleed out. But if it's in a high pressure area, or over a major artery... or the person has something reducing how much they clot... then I'd think between a half hour and a few hours, depending.

And yes, skin generally grows back... though that does also depend.

I did not have any remarkable childhood trauma. ...I probably caused an inordinate amount of childhood trauma by being a metaphorical monster under the bed, but fortunately there's not many people alive who are dealing with that anymore.

Mine were good for hawks, I guess. I flew around for a long time watching human families and I saw plenty of bad. People suck, that's for sure.

[Also, god, not again.]

Maybe you should go to the infirmary first and then ask that? If you aren't there already.

I was a foster kid who jumped homes but I wouldn't really say it was traumatic for me. I got to stay in the same place more or less and I had a lot of good times. There are better childhoods but it all worked out. Adulthood's way better though.

Anyway, for this entirely hypothetical injury, I'm not sure the exact time it takes to bleed out but losing blood will mess you up more than you'd expect. You know how people always feel sick after blood donations?

I'd suggest hypothetical stitches as soon as hypothetically possible.

Skin usually grows back but the tissue is going to need help to do that and a lot of time with a big enough wound, like one you'd need stitches for.

New skin cells will grow to cover a wound. If it's the level where stitches are needed you'll probably get scar tissue. Without stitching it won't bleed you to death, but you're very likely to die of whatever blood or skin infection you get.

Or need it amputated.

Depends what your cutoff point is for childhood here. I was doing pretty well until I was 17.

How long to bleed out depends on the location. A 'minor' cut over a major artery will bleed you out a lot faster than the same cut only hitting muscle tissue and minor blood vessels.
